With the recent twich earning leak, we’ve learned that Critical Roll is the highest earner on the platform. Which is fine, credit where credit is due. Though I do find it funny how people still think this is a group of friends instead of a company.
But with their success, the rise of DND among normies, and oldschool fans leaving (Thaco the gate keeping clown? Subtle like a brick through a window,) should the Critical Roll team start fresh with their own original tabletop roleplaying game? With all the influence they have, they could easily Kickstart something (literally and figuratively.) Then they wouldn’t have to worry about giving money to Wizards of the Coast, or promoting DND products. Similar to how many companies have started their own streaming services to cut out paying the middleman.
They’d still be on Twitch to reach everyone, so I don’t think they’d lose fans. And as an added bonus, it would introduce people to alternative systems. Hopefully breaking the monopoly/brand recognition DND has. Allowing for other systems to have a fighting chance, and forcing WotC to adapt to legitimate competition.
Good idea? Or not worth the effort?
