It is a pain killer. Used as one it is safe. But when used recreational or to cover up trauma without a prescription, it becomes a crutch.
1) I knew an addict, Teresa Blank, who came from a broken home, became a stripper and lived a life of lies addicted to marijuana before it was legal at 2grams a day (LOL she said!) but I knew she had a crack habit and that she was getting high off her “boyfriend’s” pain medication. When she lied to Ottawa Housing about abuse to get a cheap apartment, he said to me that he didn’t want anything to do with her, had a security device installed (I saw it) and his health was better because he was able to take his meds. He had food in his apartment and said he was able to because she wasn’t taking his salary and running off to buy drugs “to share with him.”
2) I know someone with severe PTSD. No traditional medication has touched his needs without adverse consequences. He was prescribed CBD oil. He took it to a pot pharmacy and the pharmacist said to wait a good while for the order to be filled because it was specific and not something that is kept on shelves. He came back days later when he got a phone call, paid what I used to pay for 3 mos of Zoloft and took it home. One drop on his tongue carefully and he laid on the couch ready for anything. One measly drop (an even lower dosage than expected once properly he read the bottle) got rid of what I believe was what he described as a buzzing feeling (?) Something about being on edge all the time, thinking it was going to happen again and this cannabis helping him getting a hold of himself in his own home with his kitty being a good boy watching over him.
3) Dad was offered Percacet for his shingles. He was given three days worth for a really bad break out that lasted two months just on the couch. He refused the prescription because two of those can addict somebody for life. He arranged a pain killer pot strain to be recommended and used that to kill off the shingles agony. Never got addicted but taught the entire family to get the Shingles Vaccine as soon as possible! Yeeee-Ouch! If his hand touched the bedroom mattress as he settled into it, his hand would vibrate up his arm into his shoulder and send spikes of pain into the shingles rash.
